My Little Pony Birthday Party Ideas

One of my favorite things about My Little Pony is the bright colors and cute items you can purchase.

My daughter loves all things rainbows and unicorns and even loves riding horses.

There are so many adorable outfits, bedroom sets, accessories, and toys that are great for any child who loves My Little Pony.

My Little Pony really is great for kids, and you can find so many My Little Pony party ideas for your child's next birthday party.

A new generation version of My Little Pony came out with new characters, and it is just as adorable as the other versions out there.

My daughter turned 3 during the pandemic and wanted a My Little Pony birthday party. Since we had to cancel her party due to the pandemic, we were able to have an awesome My Little Pony 4th birthday party!

I was able to find some very pretty decorations and made a great rainbow cupcake cake for her so she could have a great time at her party.

Check out how I planned my daughter's My Little Pony Party with the rainbow theme and gave her an unforgettable birthday party!

My Little Pony Party Food

We decided to have fun My Little Pony party food ideas to keep with the theme of my daughter's party. We had one large party since she wasn’t in school yet, so I didn’t need to plan a separate friend party during party planning.

1. Subs

To keep everyone from handling each other’s food, we opted for individually wrapped subs. We were able to get turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, and salami and cheese. If you are looking to put the options out on the table, you could do a cold cut platter with different meats and cheeses to choose from. I like to have Turkey, ham, salami, American cheese, provolone cheese, and Swiss cheese. These would go great on sub rolls or Kaiser rolls.

2. Sandwich Toppings

Preferences for sandwich toppings can vary so I tried to have a variety. For dressings, I had mayonnaise and mustard packets. The sandwich toppings I had included, lettuce, onions, and pickles that were all in separate containers.

3. Twilight Sparkle Pizza

Pizza is always a great option for parties because it’s quick and inexpensive. Guests can just grab a slice and go. There are many pizza options to choose from, but I recommend sticking with the basics for parties. We typically go with cheese, pepperoni, and garlic. A few sheet pizzas can go a long way at a party.

4. Fluttershy’s Pasta Salad

I made a simple kid-friendly pasta salad my daughter loves. She requests it often and even requested it for her birthday party. This pasta salad includes elbow pasta, ham, Colby Jack cheese, cheddar cheese, apples, cherry tomatoes, and Italian dressing. It had a wide variety of food for your children and tastes delicious.

5. Princess Celestia’s Macaroni Salad

My mom offers to make a macaroni for every party I have. She makes hers with mayonnaise instead of oil be vinegar. It was a different taste to include in the foods and everyone loves it.

6. Rainbow Dash Fruit Salad

I tend to make a huge fruit salad for every party. The very first party I had; the entire giant bowl was empty by the end of the party. Since it was such a big hit, I decided to make it for every party since. My fruit salad can change slightly, but for this fruit salad I wanted to make a rainbow. I started with a red fruit at the top and went down. The fruits I used were strawberries, pineapple, green seedless grapes, blueberries, and raspberries. Another red option is watermelon or cherries. You could add orange by cutting up cantaloupe. Some green fruit that could be added is kiwi or limes. The raspberries could be replaced with purple seedless grapes. I also put a fruit dip at the bottom of the rainbow.

7. Rarity’s Vegetable Tray

I love adding a veggie tray for those that prefer healthy options to pick at. You could put it out in a sorted platter or lay them out into the shape of a rainbow like the fruit tray. My veggie trays typically consist of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, black olives, carrots, peppers, and a veggie dip in the middle.

8. Spike’s Cheese and Crackers

Adding an assortment of pick foods gives your guests plenty of options to choose from. Cheese and crackers is one of my favorites at kids parties because most kids love cheese. I like to cut up Colby Jack cheese and Sharp Cheddar cheese. You could add any crackers to pair with cheese, but some popular options are Ritz crackers, saltine crackers, butter crackers, and Wheat Thins. You could go with other options if you prefer.

9. Applejack’s Applesauce

Depending on the ages of the children attending, applesauce can be a great snack. If you’re giving your food names to go with the My Little Pony Theme, this would be a great food to go with Applejack.

10. Pinkie Pie Punch

I was looking for a drink that could be enjoyed by children and adults. I went with Shirley Temples. This non-alcoholic drink can be enjoyed by all and is not too sweet. I made it with Lemon Lime Soda, Grenadine, and Maraschino cherries. It was a hit with all!

Another option if you want to go with a drink that looks pinker, you could go with a punch consisting of Watermelon Hi-C and Lemon Lime Soda. It’s very sweet and the kids love it!

11. Water Bottles

The easiest drink option is bottles of water. Each person can grab one and carry it around with them. I recommend having a Sharpie and masking tape near the drinks so guests can label their bottles and cups with their name. You could also pick up a few cases of the little water bottles since many people don't finish a full-size water bottle.

12. Cookies

My daughter loves cookies so I thought I would make some for her birthday. Instead of buying fancy cookies, I opted to make her homemade cookies. She helped me make Funfetti Cookies and Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. We put 2 of each type of cookie in baggies to hand out to everyone at the end of the party with their goody bag. You could add royal icing, regular icing, or edible icing paper to the top of the cookies to add an extra added touch for better results.

13. My Little Pony Rainbow Cupcake Cake

I decided to make my daughter a cupcake cake for her birthday party.

I bought a set of mini My Little Pony characters, you can grab them Here.

I also baked her Funfetti rainbow cupcakes in My Little Pony cupcake liners that can be purchased Here.

I arranged the cupcakes I made into the shape of a rainbow with extras on the sides for clouds. I mixed up 7 piping bags with a round tip of each rainbow color and a star tip for the white frosting bag. The colors I used were pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white. I piped two lines of each color across the cupcakes to gives the look of a rainbow. Then I used the white piping bag and made the clouds by pulling up on the bag to give it a fluffy look. I stuck the ponies on top of the clouds to finish out the look.

My daughter loved her rainbow My Little Pony cake! Each person could just grab a cupcake to eat from the rainbow. I was also able to wash the frosting off the ponies and my daughter was able to take them home to play with them. Don’t worry, I washed the ponies before I put them on the cupcake cake too.

My Little Pony Party Decorations

1. Plates & Napkins

One of my favorite additions to birthday parties is the themed items like plates and napkins. I purchase 1 set of themed My Little Pony plates and napkins and purchase some plain or generic as well from party supplies stores, like Party City or Oriental Trading, in different colors.

2. Themed Banner

Many themed party sets come with a Happy Birthday banner. I like to hang it up across tents or door frames so everyone can see it. You could even hang balloons or other decorations off the side of the banner to continue with the theme.

3. Centerpieces and Hanging Decorations

The tables can be the focal point of the party because everyone is sitting there to eat and mingle. Why not add cute decorations to the center of the tables for guests to enjoy. You could also add hanging decorations for the ceiling or off the side of tents. They look great spinning in the breeze too.

Also head on over to grab the My Little Pony Decorations off Amazon as well!

4. Balloons

I found some giant My Little Pony Mylar balloons for the party for my daughter to enjoy. The balloons I ordered were Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. i bought a package of rainbow color regular latex balloons to hang up around the yard. Finally, I added a pink Mylar number 4 balloon to display with her pony balloons. We used that set for my daughter’s chair when she blew out her candles and opened presents.

You can get the My Little Pony balloons off Amazon by following the link here:

Rainbow Dash Balloon and Pinkie Pie Balloon

The pink Mylar number 4 balloon, or whatever number you need, you can find Here on Amazon.

5. Tablecloths

Since themed tablecloths can get expensive, I ended up ordering some My Little Pony tablecloths and some plain pink tablecloths since pink is her favorite color. I used the My Little Pony tablecloth for her table and the food table and used the plain pink tablecloths for the rest of the tables. You could grab some rainbow tablecloths or sparkly tablecloths as well.

6. My Little Pony Backdrop

If you are looking for the perfect place for a photo op, you should grab a My Little Pony backdrop. We stood in front of the backdrop for all our pictures, and it made the best background. You can also hang it up behind the dessert table as well.

I could not pass up this awesome My Little Pony Backdrop I found Here on Amazon.

7. Tents

If you are having an outside party, it is important to put up tents. Guests will want the options to get out of the sun if it’s a hot day. We had a bouncy house for the party at our house in our backyard and wanted to have the bouncy house in the shade. We used one of the tents over the bouncy house and it worked out great. We also wanted to keep bugs away from the food, so we used an enclosed tent to protect the food.

8. Tables

Prepare ahead of time for how many tables you will need. Make sure to include the amount of food to put out, how many people will be sitting to eat, and where guests will set out presents. I used mini tables for the favors, and you could have a present table or have a spot on the floor. You should plan it out the best way for your location.

9. Chairs

It is important to have enough chairs for the number of guests invited. You do not want guests standing around holding their plates in their hands to eat or sitting on a table because their feet hurt. I have asked my parents and in-laws to bring chairs to give us more. There are also rental companies to get tents, tables, and chairs as well.

My Little Pony Party Activities

1. Piñata

Since my daughter’s favorite Pony is Pinkie Pie, I was able to find a Pinkie Pie piñata for her. The new piñatas have the option of being hit with a bat or you can have each child pull a ribbon on the bottom until the bottom opens. Since our daughter is old enough, we chose to use the bat. Young children might be better using the ribbon method. You could also use the ribbon method if your child doesn’t want to break their piñata.

2. Bouncy House

We own a small kid’s bouncy house to use in our backyard whenever we want. It is so much fun for the kids to use. If you don’t own your own, you could rent one from a party place to have delivered to your house. These can get expensive year after year though.

If you want to own your bounce house instead of rent one, check out These Awesome Bouncy Houses on Amazon to find one that works best for you.

3. Swing set / Playhouse

We have a swing set and a playhouse in our backyard that was next to the bouncy house. We set everything up into a play area for the kids. They loved being able to play in one safe area of the yard together.

My Little Pony Party Favors

1. Goodie Bags

I’m not a huge fan of small trinkets, but for this party, I did choose a small cute My Little Pony favor that could be used and tossed to put into goody bags. I went with pencils, bubbles, horse erasers, a bunch of stickers, and temporary tattoos. My daughter really loved these options so I thought they could be a nice idea.

If you want to buy a set, grab them Here from Amazon.

2. Plastic Reusable Cups

Every birthday party I throw for my children includes reusable cups because of how useful they are. The kids can use them during the party for their drinks instead of needing disposable cups. I keep masking tape and a marker near the drinks so the cups can be labeled and that way the children can take them home after. My kids have a collection of the cups they’ve for all their birthday parties so far.

If you love this idea too, head on over to Amazon to get your own My Little Pony Reusable Cups.

3. Cookies

I included the information on the cookies in the food section, but the cookies were meant to be a favor. I made Funfetti cookies and Double Chocolate Chip cookies, and I put 2 of each cookie in a baggy. I sent a baggy home with each child so they could have sweet treats for the road.

My Little Pony is such a cute shoe that can be enjoyed by all ages. There are so many ideas you could include to make the party special for your child.

The sky is the limit with a My Little Pony birthday party. You could have any party activities you want and there’s a way to incorporate them into the theme.
