1. Boat Ride

If you don’t own your own boat, there are many places to rent boats or kayaks together. You could go out on the water and just enjoy the peace and quiet. It's a great way to turn your date into a romantic summer date.

2. Movie in the Park

Every month in the summer, the local park in our area holds a movie in the park. Many places show children’s movies, but sometimes you can find a showing of a movie geared towards adults. Check your area to see what options are available in your own backyard.

3. Picnic

Grab a cooler, a blanket, and your favorite foods and head over to a park or a nice spot in your town to have a picnic date. It can be nice to eat a meal somewhere besides your house or local restaurants. Make sure to pack your favorite snacks and a good bottle of wine.

4. Wine Tour

If you’ve never been on a wine tour, you may enjoy going on one together. You can take a luxury bus or tour bus from local winery to winery sampling the different wine. It is slightly different from a wine tasting because you don’t stay at one venue. The summer and fall tend to be the best time of year to go on wine tours.

5. Hike

For the outdoorsy type, a hike could be right up your alley. It could be a great way to get some exercise walking along beautiful trails while spending time together. You could look into a long hike or something simpler. The choice is up to you!

6. Mini Golf

If you're looking for cheap summer date ideas, going mini golfing is the perfect date. You do not have to be good at playing golf to go mini golfing and you can get dinner or ice cream right after. Mini golf can also be great if you're looking for some friendly competition.

7. Golfing

My husband loves to golf, so we have gone golfing to spend quality time together. Although I'm not very good, going to the driving range or playing 9 holes can be relaxing for a fun date night. You can get some outdoor play in at the golf course, and I enjoy riding around in the golf cart.

8. Watch the Sunset

A great date late at night is to drive to a pretty location to watch the sun set. The great thing about watching the sun set is you could even add it on to the end of one of your fun summer dates.

9. The Beach

There are plenty of beaches where we live so going to the beach is an easy date during the summer months. I prefer to go to the beach later in the evening to watch the sun set or walk along the beach because it's one of the beautiful places I like to go.

If you're looking to go to the beach with your family too this summer, check out my post What To Bring To The Beach For Kids.

10. Outdoor Concert

Many times, there are great opportunities to go to outdoor summer concerts in areas all over. In some instances, there are food trucks at outdoor concerts and other activities to participate in.

11. Camp fire

At the end of a date night, sitting by the campfire is among the fun date ideas. If you’re looking for a way to have outdoor home date nights, a campfire can be a great way to do that. Get your very own fire pit for your backyard and enjoy s'mores all summer long.

Check out these Awesome Fire Pits that include wood burning fire pits and propane fire pits.

12. Fishing

My husband likes fishing more than I do, but it is very relaxing, and you can sit and spend time together. Take a short drive on out to a rural area, if you don't already live in one, and enjoy the private time together. You could find the perfect location to go fishing at the edge of a river or lake or take a boat ride to catch some fish.

13. Local Carnival

The summertime is the best time for the traveling carnival to come into town. The carnival does not have to be for only kids. You can go enjoy some carnival rides and arcade games without the kids before the carnival heads to the next town.

14. Zoo / Animal Park

We have a few local zoos and animal parks in our area to check out. Our daughter loves going to the animal park, but our son doesn't seem as interested right now. If you love seeing the animals and you want to enjoy it on your own, go on a date to the zoo with your spouse and take your time checking out all the animals.

15. Amusement Park

Do you love roller coasters and thrilling rides? You could go on a date to an amusement park and enjoy the thrilling rides without worrying about your children. Spend one of the longer days of summer riding as many roller coasters as you can. Don't forget to hit the Ferris wheel too.

16. Drive-In Movie Theater

If you are still into doing a movie night with your spouse, you could look into going to the drive-in theater. You can still enjoy the beautiful summer weather, but you can sit in the comfort of your car. Many people also bring chairs to the drive-in theater and sit in front of their car so they can be outside. My favorite part about the drive-in movie theater is you do not have to sit inside at the local theater.

17. Go-Karts

Go-Karts do not have to only be for children. If you're looking for some adventurous activities, go-karts could fall into that category. You could have a fun time racing each other around the track and competing to win.

18. Bike Ride

I have loved riding my bike since I was a little girl. If you both already own your own bikes, it can be one of the best free summer date ideas. If you want to try something new, you could look into bike rentals in your area. A tandem bike could be something new to try and is a good way to get you to work together.

19. Farmer's Market

Going to the farmer's market is not just about finding the best fresh produce or organic soaps from the local farm that are not sold in the grocery store. It's the perfect way to spend time walking around together and getting some fresh air.

20. Road Trip

A road trip doesn't have to be overnight; you could take a drive through the local small towns to check out what they have to offer. If you're a history buff, many local areas have historical monuments and museums you may not even know exist.

21. Flea Market

A flea market is different from a farmer's market because they sell miscellaneous items and not just food. You could stop by a flea market to see if there's any décor for your house or items you're interested. Just make sure you don't turn it into an errand or a shopping trip.

22. Sports Game

Depending on where you live and what point in the summer could depend on the type of sports you're interested in or have available to watch. My husband would love to attend a baseball game and it would give us a chance to enjoy the sunny days. There are many different choices for sports games to go to including professional, college, and high school.

23. Hot Air Balloon Ride

A hot air balloon ride would be for the more adventurous couples and the couples who are willing to try anything. Unfortunately for me, I'm afraid of heights, but a hot air balloon ride could be new way to see your city or town from a different view.

24. Rock Climbing

Another idea if you're not afraid of heights and want to go on an adventurous date could be going rock climbing. You could go to a rocking climbing facility or climb the side of an actual mountain. I would recommend seeking the advice and training of a professional before doing any rock climbing you have not done before.

25. Hot Tub

This choice is much easier if you own your own hot tub. If you do not own a hot tub, you could pay to use the hot tub at a local hotel, use it at your local gym if it has one, or ask a friend or family member to use theirs for your date. I find it so relaxing to kick back and close my eyes for a few minutes in a hot tub. Bonus points is that the hot tub could be very therapeutic to sore muscles.

26. Swimming

The best pools to swim in during the summer are outdoor pools because you can enjoy the beautiful weather. Just like the hot tub, you could pay to use the pool at a local hotel, use the pool at your local gym if there is one available to use, or ask a friend or family member if you could use theirs.

27. Water Balloon Fight

If you want to be kids at heart, you could have a water balloon fight outside. You could have such a good time letting off steam from a rough week or making it into a competition. Water balloon fights do not just have to be for kids to play.

28. Take a Drive

Something as simple as taking a long leisurely drive around can be a nice way to spend time together talking or listening to music. You could drive along a scenic route like taking a drive up the mountains or driving around a lake. I wouldn't say this is a free activity though with the current cost of gas.

29. Nature Walk

One of the best ideas to really enjoy the beautiful summer weather is to take a walk along a nature trail. Many areas have nature trails you can follow, and it will help keep you from getting lost in the woods. Sometimes local nature trails have activities you can participate in to so you could add some more fun to your date.

30. Ice Cream Shoppe

An activity you could make into a weekly date night is going out for ice cream at the local ice cream shoppe. I love to have a bowl of ice cream almost every night before bed after I put the kids to bed. You could grab some ice cream on your date and enjoy it together without worrying about your kids.

There are so many activities you can go to on a date and many you could take the children to.

It’s so healthy for your relationship to try to go on a date at least once a month without the kids. My husband and I make it a priority to get a sitter and spend the evening together.

Some of the best fun summer date night ideas to take with your spouse are simple ideas.

Make sure to get out of your living room and go on a date with your spouse to bring the romance back into your life.
